After successful completion of the course, students are able to identify and discuss the logic and mechanics of different subject areas (Theory of Architecture, Jurisprudence, Heritage Conservation) and to classify their own attitudes in the subject.
The starting point of the dissertation seminar are canonical texts from different fields of architecture (architectural theory, heritage conservation and law). Comparative approaches are used to explore the inherent logics and their functions, in the sense of a 'mechanics', in the subject. The disappearance, forgetting and reappearance of recognizable constellations (figures of thought) are of interest, as well as their continuities, changes and disruptions. It is assumed that these figures of thought begin to dance when traditional systems of order in the respective discipline, such as chronology, are questioned with regard to the metrics that constitute them. Levels of abstraction will be developed step by step in order to enter into conversation with each other across the boundaries of the subject areas.
The event will take place as a blocked workshop between 28.06. 2024 - 03.07.2024, expected in Tuscany, Italy. Estimated costs for participants: Travel and per diem 30 euros/person (including accommodation and meals). The block seminar is planned for 10 participants.
Introductions, text reading, text work, joint discussion across different research areas.
Oral presentation of own knowledge on the subjectWritten commentary on texts; presentation of texts; active participation in the discussion; final report (to be prepared in group work).
