This design competition is about a student project with reference to a World Heritage site or potential World Heritage site such as the Kellergassen in Austria. A location in the Weinviertel is currently Weinviertel, where an existing ensemble is to be supplemented.
Project description Königsbrunn am WagramA summer project is planned by the Vienna University of Technology with architecture students from the Master's program in Architecture. As part of a student competition, an urban planning concept is to be developed for the center of Königsbrunn that takes into account the historical existing buildings, the traffic situation and the design of the open space. ProcedureThe first step is to analyze the location and its history, the vernacular building tradition of the Wagram region and the vernacular architecture associated with viticulture, the typical village structures and the historical building typologies. Based on this, an idea concept for the Königsbrunn village center will be developed. The project is expected to start in May/early June 2024 and end in September/October 2024. All project documents will be submitted to the municipality. The exact topic will be announced at a later date. The design will take place in blocks, primarily during the lecture-free period. Exact details will follow at the end of May.
We begin with a complex analysis dedicated to theoretical aspects of the preservation of cultural heritage, in particular values in architecture, monument preservation approaches and a discourse analysis. This is followed by a procedural design phase in which the theoretical concept is transferred into an architectural solution by means of creative design.
