Architecture and ritual: spatial concepts of Hindu and Christian sacred buildings in comparison

Although the Christian and Hindu religions differ considerably in their essence, there are certain parallels in spatial concepts of churches and Hindu temples, such as the sequence of spaces of lower and higher rank. But there are also differences, such as in the light concept. Further comparisons, such as the different design of higher and lower ranking spaces, the different design of the individual building parts, or the different concepts of orientation, are intended to open up an expanded understanding of the background of function, construction, form, and symbolism of sacred architecture.
