Topic: Parco Archeologico Dell` Appia Antica, Rom
The course aims to convey methodical basics which may be of use and relevance for deeper investigation into the field of building archaeology in the future for example in architectural surveys or architectural documentation and analysis. Among other things, the students get an overview of how to take building measurements on different scales and with varying grades of detail, to prepare mappings and photo-documentations or to complete investigations into source materials. Current examples demonstrate the analysis of various research results as well as their application.
The theoretical part goes into the basic problems of building archaeology in individual lectures and explaines the available analytical methods and tools. Moreover, an insight will be given into the continuative use oft the findings of building research for example in the field of restoration. In the practical part students will deal with a concrete object of study within a framework of source research and documentation.

Basic knowledge in surveying and experience in the writing of architectural topics is expected. Mandatory requirement is the knowledge of topics in the area of architectural and building history, monument preservation and building archaeology.
