Aim of course

The aim of this course is to introduce students to basics of photogrammetry and laserscanning as well as applications in the field of building archeology. Two tools from geodesy come to use: Photogrammetry allows a representation to scale of three-dimensional objects through the use of photography. Laserscanning uses a so-called terrestrial laserscanner to survey 3D-objects. Through high-density laser measurements the device generates a 3D reconstruction of an object in the form of a pointcloud.

Subject of course

Topic in SS2019:

Weltkulturerbe Matera / Italien

Within this semester the course will focus on the world heritage site Matera with a special focus on the negative space of Architecture built into the local rock formations.

The lecture part of the course in a first step deals with the basics of photogrammetry and 3d-laserscanning and gives hints to the approach of creating planning material like the digital equalisation, orthophoto, and 3D-photomodel. In a second step, different methods of stratigrafic analysis (stonework analysis, cartography of damages) will be introduced. These methods utilise the graphic material obtained.

The practice part of the course is linked to the VU 251.883 Kollaboratives Arbeiten and contains the practical use of the 3d  laser scanner and its measurement results, which the students will do independently - with assistance of their supervisor. Based on these results the students will create elevations, horizontal and vertical sections of the object. The procedures and results will be documented and finally summarized.

students attending this course must also attend:

- EX 251.778 Exkursion zu Sonderthemen der Baukunst I
- VU 251.833 Kollaboratives Arbeiten in der Architekturforschung (Soft Skill)
