Students learn about culture-related characteristics of vernacular architecture. Based on a selected object, students will delve deeply into regionally typical layouts, materials and constructions. A visit to the Museum of Folk Life and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum Wien) and to the exhibition “Crafty Hands” at the Schallaburg strengthen the discourse on the interrelation between crafts and vernacular architecture.

Teaching is conducted on a theoretical and object-analythical basis.
Teaching is...- holistic and inductive: material and immaterial aspects of vernacular architecture are taught on the basis of selected examples.- analytical and deductive: building typologies and properties of traditional building materials and constructions are examined on a selected object.- practically orientated: on-site teaching on the basis of a selected object.
Introduction:The introduction to the course will take place on Thursday the 3.10.2018 at 17:00 CT in the lecture room 14 (main building, staircase III, 3rd floor).

The course assessment is based on a seminar paper.
