Aim of course
The aim is to delve into strategic thinking in architecture and construction by looking at a different region. Designs investigate the nature of architecture and cities and do not limit to the built surrounding. They raise the question of "What if..." and, therefore, represent a different way of production of knowledge on all scales, from concept to detail.
Subject of course
THE MEGACITY AND THE KAMPUNG Supporting Structures - Fostering the local The Metropolis Jabotabek (Jakarta Bogor Tanggerang and Bekasi) is one of the largest urban agglomerations, that has grown up to a megacity in the last 50 years. The rapid growth has lead to infrastructural, ecological and social tensions. In the course of this transformation also the traditional grown villages, called Kampungs are changing. In order to make way for further built development, whole Kampungs have been densified, resettled and even torn down. By doing so, one runs risk of destroying social, economic and ecologic systems and identities of whole areas. Attempts of bettering the living standards often fail due to high costs and bad adaptability to the user s needs. The climatic conditions, different availability of resources and, as well, a different role for planners - as we are working in a postcolonial surrounding - rise new challenges.
