Aim of course

The aim is to delve into architectural and constructive thinking and to recognise and understand building construction; to identify the feeling for the coherence of forms by/ through the interaction of material and construction on basis of a design; implementation of the knowledge from the lectures: Hochbau Einführung and Tragwerkslehre Einführung . Also important is the logical appliance of construction elements and materials and their rough pre-calculation.

Subject of course

Technical preparation: Building Construction: preliminary draft, design plans Structural Framework: rough calculation Building Construction: working model and architectural model Structural Framework: structural framework model The process of the course involves 4 obligatory turn ins: 1.Concept: Development of a working model M 1:100 (photos, portfolio A4 including CD) 2.Preliminary Draft: ground plans, sections, views, M 1: 200; site plan M 1:500; 3D pictures (inside & outside), photos of model (portfolio A3 including CD) 3.Design: ground plans, sections, views M 1:100, site plan M 1:250; 3D pictures (inside & outside), photos of model (portfolio A2 including CD) 4.Architectural model M 1:50 and framework model M 1:20 Supervision in groups of maximum 24 students (practical part 4h) including a relevant lecture (lecture part 1h).

Examination modalities

The process of the course alleges the following hand offs: working process = presentation 1. Concept 2. Design 3. Constructive design 4. Detail Plans have to be presented in the format of A1 on hard carrier material. In the first presentation the concept will be presented on panel 1 . The second presentation presents panel 1+ 2 (concept + design) a.so.. In the last presentation all panels (1+2+3+4) have to be presented and will be pre-graded. Finals marks are given on basis of a digital hand over - CD-ROM. Digital hand over comprises the content of all presentations including a booklet. Marking criteria: --design idea, concept --construction, logic usage and implementation of materials, dimensions, logic understanding of a modular constructive system --functional use, variability, flexibility --space differentiation --reaction to climatic and topographical circumstances --economical and -logical design --formal composition
