Aim of course

Lecture: The aim of the lecture is to disseminate knowledge of fundamental principles in the field of planning processes and the management of construction projects concerning development, planning and operational processing of construction projects (In continuation of the lecture ¿Bauwirtschaft und Bauprozessmanagement 1¿, Prof. DI Dr. A. Kropik).
Exercise: Usage of the Lecture-contents within the project work with different tasks. The focus of the exercise will be on construction management. It is a general introduction to the principals of project-management, organization and processing of building projects. In the final phase of the course a comprehensive view will be generated to explain the most common measures taken to fulfill the required cost targets, scheduling goals and quality objectives.

Subject of course

Lecture: Types of projects and implementation models. Project structures - project administrators/managers, framework of competence and rules of procedure. Impacts on planning processes by location, infrastructure, people and society. Project phases and operation areas of the construction project management ¿ organisation, implementation, coordination, documentation ¿ qualities and quantities ¿ costs and financing ¿ time schedules and capacities. Practical introduction to the construction project management by means of illustrative projects and specific experiences from project management and contract management.  Sustainable project development and project management requirements. 
Exercise: Simulation of a construction project during operation areas 1-5, according to HO-PS (Honorarleitlinie für Projektsteuerung 2001). Realisation as teamwork in groups of 5 students. Allocation of roles among group: client/owner, project manager, designer, site supervisor and executing company.  Practical training by means of an application example and illustration of essential positions of project members. The group work will be guided by a supervisor.

Examination modalities

The course consits of two parts: the lecture and the exercise. For the passing both parts have to be successful absolved. Lecture: The content of the lecture will be examined in two partial tests.
Exercise: Three written elaborations and one presentation is required as proof of activity performance.
