Starting from the basic concepts the special requirements that must be considered for planning, for the design, construction, and operation of public transport (ÖPNV), will be discussed in more detail. On the content include the identification of the need for traffic, driving dynamics and operational bases and the determination of performance. Other significant aspects relating to network design and planning of station facilities. Besides the classic railway systems also alternative systems will be discussed. To establish a current to the practice, a part of this course will be held by external contributors. In addition, the learned theory is illustrated in the context of an excursion to projects in Vienna.
