Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to

  • to explain the properties, requirements and application of road building materials used in the various layers of road construction
  • to define the characteristics and requirements for the various road pavements layers of the road surface
  • to indicate construction principles and construction methods of asphalt and concrete pavements as well as block pabvements and sketch specific execution details
  • to apply mechanistic road pavement design methods
  • to explain technical methods of recycling of road constructions
  • to present the methods of road maintenance and pavement management as well as to apply them in projects

 

 

 

 

 

Subject of course

  1. Road building materials (Building materials regulation, minerals, bitumen, emulsions)
  2. Earthworks (soil, compaction, frost, requirements of subgrade)
  3. Unbonded and stabilized layers (types, production, requirements)
  4. Asphalt road construction (asphalt building material, parameters, construction, recycling, conservation, dimensioning and reinforcement)
  5. Concrete roads (concrete construction material, requirements, construction, recycling, maintenance, dimensioning)
  6. Block paving (mode of operation and building principles, construction principle, production, maintenance, dimensioning)
  7. Road maintenance (survey and damage catalog, condition assessment and evaluation, methods of pavement management)
