After successful completion of the course, students are able to have an overview of the diverse facets of urban walking and (sub-)urbancycling. This includes the (historic) evolution and today's significance as mode of transport, for leisure and in a social context.
The lecture series looks at (sub-)urban cycling from a multitude of viewpoints: The importance for a transport system of a city; planning for walking and cycling and design of riding and parking infrastructure; the history of cycling and bicycles; medical implications & safety; cultural importance and the state in society, and other topics.
The lecture includes talks on the many facets of urban walking and cycling. Talks are being enriched with interactive elements, such as live surveys on behaviour of the attending students.
Method when switching to online format: The lecture is held via Zoom. Exam mode when switching to online format: The exams are held in the TUWEL online exam format via Zoom. The duration of the exam is 60 minutes. Assessment scheme for the online exam: The assessment and the scoring remain unchanged. Required technical equipment for participation in the course and examination: A device with a camera and microphone through which the Zoom meeting runs is required for the participation in the lectures. The following applies to the test: The camera must be positioned so that the workstation and screen of the second device are clearly visible. The microphone must be switched on for the entire duration of the examination. Loudspeakers should be used instead of headphones or headsets.
