After successful completion of the course, students are able to have an overview of the diverse facets of urban walking and (sub-)urbancycling. This includes the (historic) evolution and today's significance as mode of transport, for leisure and in a social context.
The lecture series looks at (sub-)urban cycling from a multitude of viewpoints: The importance for a transport system of a city; planning for walking and cycling and design of riding and parking infrastructure; the history of cycling and bicycles; medical implications & safety; cultural importance and the state in society, and other topics.
The lecture includes talks on the many facets of urban walking and cycling. Talks are being enriched with interactive elements, such as live surveys on behaviour of the attending students.
