  • list the most common methods for environmental assessment
  • select an appropriate assessment method for a certain issue
  • apply assessment methods in practice
  • interpret and communicate obtained results

  • The need for an evaluation of material flow systems
  • risks and opportunities of evaluation
  • presentation of the most relevant scientific and technical evaluation methods such as Life Cycle Assessment, "geogenic vs antropogenic"-approaches, Total Materials Requirement (TMR), Sustainable Process Index (SPI), Cost-Benefit Analysis, Exergy, Entropy, Risk Analysis
  • analysis of shortcomings
  • working on case studies covering the presented evaluation tools

  • The grade is composed of the evaluation of the exercises (30 Points) and of the performance at the final exam (50 Points).
    • Exercises: 2 assignments which focus on the application of specific methods to a waste management problem.
    • Written exam (first possibility at the end of the lecture series)
    • Insight into the completed exam is only possible with an appointment (E-Mail).
