  • select an appropriate assessment method for a certain issue
  • apply assessment methods in practice
  • interpret and communicate obtained results

  • The need for an evaluation of material flow systems
  • risks and opportunities of evaluation
  • presentation of the most relevant scientific and technical evaluation methods such as Life Cycle Assessment, "geogenic vs antropogenic"-approaches, Total Materials Requirement (TMR), Sustainable Process Index (SPI), Cost-Benefit Analysis, Exergy, Entropy, Risk Analysis
  • analysis of shortcomings
  • working on case studies covering the presented evaluation tools

Examination modalities

The grade is composed of the evaluation of the exercises (15 Points) and of the performance at the written exam (45 Points)

  • Two assignments with focus on the application of specific methods to a waste management problem
  • Points received from the exercises are only taken into account if the assignments were finished before the written exam
  • Written exam (first possibility at the end of the lecture series)
  • Insight into the completed exam is only possible with an appointment (E-Mail).
