Aim of course

The aim of this series of lectures is one the one side

  • to understand the fundamental interrelations between (urban) water management and energy management and on the other hand
  • to learn the procedures in the energy optimisation in wastewater technologies.

Subject of course

The content of the lectures is primarily as follows:

  • general reflections of the ¿water energy nexus¿
  • energy consumption & production at municipal wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs)
  • energy analyses of municipal WWTPs
  • energy at municipal WWTPs from organic residues as ¿co-substrates¿
  • energy in alternative wastewater systems
  • thermal energy from wastewater (comparison between energy production from municipal wastewater and from industrial wastewater and from cooling water resp.)
