Aim of course

Selection and application of appropriate evaluation methods for a certain problem; Interpretation, discussion and communication of results

Subject of course

Subject will be taught in English!

The need for an evaluation of material flow systems; risks and opportunities of evaluation; presentation of the most relevant scientific and technical evaluation methods such as Life Cycle Assessment, "geogenic vs antropogenic"-approaches, Total Materials Requirement (TMR), Sustainable Process Index (SPI), Cost-Benefit Analysis, Exergy, Entropy, Risk Analysis; analysis of shortcomings; working on case studies covering the presented evaluation tools

  • The grade is composed of the evaluation of the exercises (40%) and of the performance at the final exam (60%).
    • Exercises: 3 assignments which focus on the application of specific methods to a waste management problem.
    • Written exam (first possibility at the end of the lecture series)
