  • describe the importance of the visited facilities for waste management and recycling
  • explain issues and related solutions of the visited facilities
  • write a report including information about the topics presented during the visit

Subject of course

Program of the Waste management Excursion 2 on 03.06.20- SS 2020

1) Morning // 13:00-15:30: On-site visit to the Semmering-Basistunnel-Construction site (overground and underground)

2) Afternoon // 15:45-~17:00: On-site visit to the Landfill Longsgraben


  • The excursion takes place on 3rd June 2020.
  • Meeting point is punctual at 11:30 AM at the corner Wiedner Hauptstraße/Resselgasse.
  • Bus transfer
  • Arrival will be ~7 PM.
  • Please bring your own lunch.
  • Sturdy shoes and clothing according to the weather. In case you own security shoes, we urge you to take them with you. Otherwise ÖBB will borrow you security shoes on the construction site.

Registration is only possible at the Institute's secretary (Karlsplatz 13, 2. floor) from 02.03.2019 till 29.04.2020. There is a limited number of participants!

Additionally to the personal registration, a deposit of € 10,-- has to be paid. The deposit will be returned upon participation at the excursion.

IMPORTANT: You must follow the safety instructions of the ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG!

Examination modalities

Two components: compulsory attendance + submission of a report (.pdf) by e-mail to caroline.roithner@tuwien.ac.at until 31.07.2020.

The report must consist of a text part (1100-1700 words) and tables and graphs, which should be added in an adequate extent (approx. 1 page for tables and graphs). Font size 12 (Arial) and a line spacing of 1,5 and  justification. If passages of the text are copied from the Internet or any other source (without any appropriate citation/reference), the report will be automatically graded with "nicht genügend (5)". The grading will be proceeded as soon as the reports of all excursion participants are handed in and the deadline is expired.

  • related to the excursion
  • content correctness
  • scope and structure
  • appropriate writing style
  • autonomous work
  • referencing (in a scientific format and consistent)

Attention: For the successful completion of the course, the attendance of the excursion and the submission of the report are required. If the report is not submitted, although the excursion was attended, the total course will be graded with "nicht genügend (5)".
