After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

  • describe the basics of hydraulic engineering testing
  • define the required model laws and model boundaries and apply them to physical experiments
  • critically analyze the results of model experiments

Subject of course

History of models in hydraulic engineering, similarity, scaling laws, river models with fixed or movable bed, models of hydraulic structures to find out discharge, energy dissipation, erosion, fluid forces and flow induced vi-brations, models of pipelines

 

Teaching methods

Lecture with exemplary videos of carried out model experiments. Application of the learned as part of a practical training session in the hydraulic engineering laboratory.
