Properties

  • Semester hours: 1.5
  • Credits: 2.0
  • Type: VU Lecture and Exercise

Aim of course

Knowledge of scale models in hydraulic engineering, using the method of physical simulation of hydraulic phenomena in the same medium as in the prototype. Exercises on existing models in the laboratory of the institute.

Subject of course

History of models in hydraulic engineering, similarity, scaling laws, river models with fixed or movable bed, models of hydraulic structures to find out discharge, energy dissipation, erosion, fluid forces and flow induced vi-brations, models of pipelines.

Method:

Lecture with exemplary videos of carried out model experiments. Application of the learned as part of a practical training session in the hydraulic engineering laboratory.
