Aim of course

The objective is to develop specific knowledge in the field of concrete fracture mechanics and the treatment of damage in massive concrete structures - in particular, a constructive and material-specific approach to avoid cracks is discussed.

Subject of course

In this lecture the application of fracture mechanic methods to crack formation in massive concrete structures (dams, weirs, lock walls, etc.) as well as the determination of special fracture mechanics material properties will be presented and the application of these methods in the direction of damage avoidance, damage assessment and remediation will be discussed. In particular, the cases of damage at two Austrian arch dams are treated in detail.

Lecture notes will be handed out during the lecture.
