Properties

  • Semester hours: 1.5
  • Credits: 2.25
  • Type: VO Lecture

Aim of course

Based on project discussions of hydraulic structures the students should get a deeper insight to different hydraulic and constructive problems. Furthermore, actual research projects at the Institute of Hydraulic Engineering are presented and discussed as well.

Subject of course

Special topics in hydraulics - coherent flow pattern - boundary layer - flow seperation (vortex shedding) - cross waves - mixed water-air flow - cavitation - cavitation-erosion etc. Design of multipurpose projects - power intakes (sediment defense facilities) - dam construction - dam operation facilities - water conveyance structures - powerhouse - small hydro plants Project discussions of hydraulic structures - types of waterpower plants - types of dam constructions - hydraulic problems - river diversion, bottom outlets, spillway chutes, aeration, energy dissipation Presentation of current research projects at the Institute of Hydraulic Engineering (aim of investigations, results) - Hydromatrix-technology - high head leaf gates - trifurcator - pump sumps (lufteinziehende Wirbel) - hydraulic resistance behavior of throttel elements in pressure duct systems - artificial armored river bed (Gumpen) - structured block ramps
