This course is in at least 1 assigned curriculum part of the STEOP.

2022W, VO, 1.5h, 2.5EC

Properties

  • Semester hours: 1.5
  • Credits: 2.5
  • Type: VO Lecture
  • Format: Presence

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

  • name basic selection factors for special ground engineering techniques,
  • differentiate the topics 'system-related risks' and 'ground risks',
  • name basic aspects of the most important special ground engineering techniques:
  • diaphragm walls, bored piles, driving piles, anchor technology, injection technology, jet blasting, soil improvement,
  • explain in detail the 'prestressing principle of anchors,
  • categorize anchor elements according to the relevant standards,
  • explain regulations of the contractual provisions 'impermeable diaphragm walls' in detail,
  • distinguish methods for pile load tests,
  • calculate creeping of piles and anchors.

Subject of course

Overview on special ground engineering techniques considering recent developments: basics, design and execution, amongst others diaphragm walls, bored and displacement piles, retaining walls (prestressed anchors, soil nailing, tension piles), jet grouting

Teaching methods

Using examples from the practice of special ground engineering, students will be introduced to special ground engineering techniques in a vivid lecture.
