The lecture content includes the description of the most common types of geosynthetics used in geotechnics (geotextiles, nonwovens, sealing foils, filter products, reinforcement elements, etc.), their areas of application as well as the basic features of dimensioning and project planning. Test methods and acceptance criteria as well as areas of application and rehabilitation possibilities of geosynthetics are explained on the basis of current practical examples (hydraulic engineering, reinforced base layers in road and railway construction, service roads and traffic areas in municipal road and path construction, geogrid-reinforced steep embankments and supporting structures, dam foundations, rockfall reinforcement and subsoil improvement with geosynthetics, etc.).
The course provides an overview of the application fundamentals for the design and application of geosynthetics in geotechnics; products, regulations and recommendations for practical application are presented and construction principles, dimensioning and design fundamentals are explained; design, approval and project processing of geotechnical structures with geosynthetics are taught on the basis of practical case studies;
