After successful completion of the course, students are able to...
The basic concepts of continuum mechanics and elasticity theory are reviewed. However, the course focusses on nonlinear mathematical models for soils like elastoplasticity, hypoplasticity and barodesy. The concepts of these constitutive models are discussed. In addition, the lecture includes an overview of the application of plastic limit load analysis, used in structural analysis and conservation laws in soil mechanical modelling.
Basics of continuum mechanics and elasticity theory for soil mechanical modelling are presented. Consequently, nonlinear constitutive models for soil and their differences are discussed. In addition, an overview of the application of plastic limit load analysis, used in structural analysis in soil mechanical modelling is given. Furthermore, the meaning of conservation laws for soil mechanical modelling will be explained. Simple numeric examples can be solved with the knowledge provided in this lecture.
Lecture mode in summer semester 2022: The course will be held in presence in the summer semester 2022. In case the holding of lectures in presence is no longer permitted due to the requirements of the Federal Government or the TU Wien, a change to an online-mode is carried out. Examination mode in summer semester 2022: Exams will be held as "written online paper exams" until further notice. In this context, please refer to the Covid-19 distance examination regulations of the Research Unit of Ground Engineering, Soil and Rock Mechanics. Please note that starting from the summer semester 2017 programmable calculators are not allowed during the written exam!
Written exam with numerical continuum mechanics related examples (e.g. parameter identification for linear elasticity with given stress and deformation state).
