Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to identify geogenic natural hazards, assess their impact on the environment, infrastructure and human live, as well as initiate appropriate activities to minimize the risks.

Subject of course

Introduction - hazard identification, interdisciplinary communication; Terms - causes; Literature / standards / regulations; Methods of underground exploration; Laser Surveying, aerial photographs, data (rockfall events from the past, HW data, precipitation potential, field methods: site inspections, findings hazard potential - rockfall, avalanches, floods, mudflows - mass balance / probability of mobilization, engineering geological / geotechnical discussion based on case studies, protective structures: definition, species Protective structures, when they are used, avalanche protection (protective structures, Leitdämme, Farfalle, etc.), case studies, rockfall protection (nets, dams, casings, timber structures, anchor beams, ground crossbeams), case studies; monitoring systems of protective structures (monitoring systems, sensor monitoring, georadar, telejointmeter , Fissurometer, tachymetric monitoring)
