## Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to apply design models for the survey of the structural behavior of steel and steel-concrete composite bridges. Furthermore, the students are able to design standard cross-sections of conventional bridges including the required bracing. Moreover, they can explain the force paths occurring in bridges.

## Subject of course

• General part: Principles of bridge construction including aesthetic and economical aspects. Warping torsion first-order theory. System modelling and calculation of sectional forces. Stability problems of frames, frame systems and plates in bridge constructions. Selected models and calculation methods for bridge constructions.
• Steel bridges/Composite bridges:: Primary structural systems - construction and calculation. Secondary structural systems - construction and calculation. Construction and calculation of orthotropic decks.

## Teaching methods

Lessons on the basics and the application of static models for the analysis and verification of steel and steel-concrete composite bridges. Typical standard cross-sections as well as selected details are developed. The performance and discussion of a number of calculations will accompany the theoretical readings.
