A reinforced concrete structure will be designed and calculated according to the valid standards. Following structures have been designed in the past: Diving tower, observation tower, tower for wind turbines with H>60m, frame for a sportstand roofing, frame for an industrial hall, shed roof, avalanche barrier, tennis hall, prestressed concrete bridge, etc.)
The exercise consists of tests and an assignment. Both parts must be passed in order to receive a passing grade on the exercise.
Tests
Three tests are offered, two of which must be taken - the third is considered an alternate date. A maximum of 25 points can be achieved per test. A minimum of 25 points is required to pass the tests. The two best out of three possible test results are included in the grade. Thus, a total of 50 points can be achieved in the tests. The time available to complete the tests is 105 minutes each.
In order to participate in the exercise and thus in the tests, a TISS registration in the group "Registration for the 1st and 2nd exercise test" is required by 08.10.2023 (12:00) at the latest. To participate in the third test, a TISS registration in the group "Registration for the 3rd practice test" is required from 09.01.2024 (12:00) to 18.01.2024 (16:00). Those who are not registered for the third test will not be able to participate.
Examination-relevant material areas for the tests:
1st test: all lectures presented up to that point.
2nd test: all lectures presented up to that point, except those already tested in the 1st test
3rd test: the entire subject area
The following materials are allowed for the tests:
Calculator (also programmable permitted), lecture script (2013 version or more recent - older versions are not permitted), ÖNORM EN 1992-1-1 and ÖNORM B 1992-1-1 in the current version (coefficients may be transferred from the national annex to the basic document. Markings are allowed).
The following aids are NOT allowed for the tests:
Exercise script, calculated test examples, "recipes", self-written formulas, construction tables or similar works, electronic devices such as tablets or notebooks.
Assignment
The construction exercise will be handed out at the beginning of the semester (see schedule). The assignment consists of a structural analysis (maximum 35 points), preparation of plans (maximum 60 points), and a final peer-review-process (maximum 5 points) in which feedback must be prepared for randomly assigned anonymized plan documents. Both the structural analysis and the plan documents must be passed. A total of 100 points can thus be achieved in the assignment.
The assignment must be submitted no later than Thursday, 14.03.2023 at 15:00. The structural analysis of the assignment must be submitted via TUWEL. Hard copies of the plans must be submitted in person or by mail to the Institute as well as via TUWEL (for peer review). The results table must also be completed and uploaded to TUWEL as it serves as the basis for the peer review process. A design exercise handed in late will not be accepted!
The preparation of the feedback in the course of the peer-review-process is scheduled for the period between 18.03.2024 - 22.03.2024 via TUWEL. However, the peer-review-process can be completed at an earlier time after the assignment has been submitted in full and the respective supervisor has been consulted.
The total percentage for the final grade is composed of the percentage achieved in the tests (max. 50 points = 50% of the total grade) and the percentage achieved in the assignment (max. 100 points = 50% of the total grade). To achieve a positive overall grade, both the tests and the design exercise must be completed positively.
A summary of the dates of the lectures and the tests will be added at the start of the semester or can be found under Documents.
