Fire protection planning is usually based on descriptive standards. If the requirements from the descriptive standards are deviated from, (formal) holistic proofs of the effectiveness of fire protection measures (structural, plant, and organizational) must be provided. Such evidence can be provided on the basis of (fire) risk assessments. This requires that the fire risk is determined/estimated for a given fire protection solution, taking into account the existing uncertainties. For this purpose, deterministic methods of fire protection engineering (simulations, calculation methods) can be used. The content of the seminar is the application of deterministic methods of fire protection engineering (simulations, calculation methods) in the context of fire risk assessments. In the course, the following points are dealt with in particular:- Fundamentals and systematization of deterministic methods of fire protection engineering.- Treatment of uncertainties- Application of risk assessment methods in the verification process- Application of methods of fire protection engineering in the verification procedure
The didactic concept of the lecture is based on a "blended learning" principle. The basics of the seminar content are taught, practically demonstrated, and practiced in mandatory attendance phases. In the online phases, the students will independently deepen and practically apply the knowledge based on a case study. Furthermore, the given documents (compulsory literature) are to be studied independently in the online phases. The case study is to be carried out in principle as individual work. Group work is also possible after consultation with the lecturers.Communication between students and tutors is asynchronous via a general forum. In order to make the progress of the case study transparent for all participants, an obligatory interim presentation of the results with group feedback is planned (presence phase or video conference).
As a certificate of achievement for the seminar, the case study is to be completed in the form of a written project work (certificate of achievement).
No prerequisites are necessary to complete the course; attendance of the seminar Fire Risk Management I and the lecture Structural Fire Protection is recommended.
