After successful completion of the course, students are able to put the teaching content into practice, as eg. calculation and simulation of hybrid building components, detailed design and selection of joining techniques
A trend towards hybrid constructions in the building industry is becoming increasingly evident both nationally and internationally. The decision for a hybrid construction method can have many advantages, among others positive effects on statics, fire protection and sound insulation can be mentioned. The aim of the lecture is to refer to this new trend and prepare students for working with hybrid structures. A further aim is to work out the efficiency of the materials in combination. The topics of the course are divided into parts: 1.Part: Selection of materials and practical application of hybrid building materials and development of innovative, sustainable materials 2.Part: Joining technology (rigid and flexible joining techniques - adhesive technology, mechanical joining) and simulation of hybrid construction materials using FEM 3.Part: Verification of hybrid building materials and detailed design of joints In the first part, the material specifics of different materials and their physical properties are discussed. Furthermore, novel ecological materials are presented during the lecture. The first part will give an insight into the hybrid construction method as well as its pragmatic material mix and will show the advantages based on realized buildings. The students will learn about hybrid construction methods in new as well as in "re used"-buildings by means of practical examples. In the second part of the lecture the connections will be discussed. The individual possibilities of mechanical and adhesive joining techniques will be discussed. Simulations in the field of FEM are also presented. In the third part the individual calculation possibilities are explained. In the following, the detailed design and difficulties in the design of the junctions are dealt with. The focus here is on different calculation methods and the critical points in the planning of details with hybrid materials. Proof of performance: Calculating and designing a hybrid structure with conventional calculation models and with a simulation. Oral examination with discussion of the calculated example.
