After successful completion of the course, students are able to...
Within the framework of fire protection planning and fire safety management, analyses and evaluations of the effectiveness of fire protection measures (structural, plant-related and organisational) are required to estimate the fire risk. This results in the necessary strategies for coping with the risks. These steps can be carried out on the basis of formal risk management processes and methods, especially risk assessment. In this course the following points will be dealt with in particular:
The didactic concept of the lecture is based on the "flipped classroom" principle. Starting with an online phase with an independent examination of the normative foundations of risk management and the process of risk assessment (online phase 1), there follows an attendance phase in which the theoretically developed foundations are demonstrated and practiced in practice (attendance phase). In the subsequent online phase, students will independently and practically apply the knowledge they have acquired by means of a case study (online phase 2).In the online phase 1, the given documents (compulsory literature online phase 1) are to be studied independently and presented in the form of a common glossary. Each student has to create at least one glossary entry and comment on/expand another one. Communication between students and tutors is asynchronous and takes place in a general forum. The attendance phase is held in the form of a workshop. Selected methods of risk assessment will be presented using examples (as impulse lectures). These methods are then immediately applied by the students in group work. The results of the exercises will be presented briefly and discussed in the plenum. The Online Phase 2 focuses on an independent examination of a concrete issue for which a formal risk assessment is to be carried out in the form of group work. Communication between students and tutors is asynchronous via a forum and synchronous via optional question times (video conference). In order to make the progress of the group work transparent for all participants, an obligatory interim presentation of the results with group feedback (video conference) is planned.Performance review is carried out in Online Phase 1 and Online Phase 2. Online Phase 1 evaluates the learning success via glossary creation and commentary. In Online Phase 2, the written group work (risk assessment of an object) is assessed on the one hand, and a written online examination in the form of a multiple choice test must be taken on the other.
