After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

...  apply basic radiation, heat, moisture and sound transmission processes to simple tasks in the building physics planning of buildings.
...  calculate the heat demand, the thermal comfort in summer and the cooling demand.
... analyze room acoustics of frequently occurring rooms and to plan improvements.
... calculate the entry for ambient noise and noise from neighboring utility units in a simplified way.
... formulate the requirements for fire protection up to building class 5 and to name fire protection component properties.
... apply design rules for permanent designs to typical component leads and analyze the fault tolerance of designs.

Subject of course

Thermal comfort and energy performance of buildings
Test methods for building material parameters - Simplified calculation of heating requirements, cooling requirements - proof of avoidance of summer overheating

Soundproofing, room acoustics
Propagation of ambient noise, room acoustics, airborne sound insulation, impact sound insulation Test methods for building material and component characteristics

Fire protection
Protection goals, fire sections, fire behavior of structures, test methods for building material and component characteristics

Durability of building structures
Protection objectives, measures to reduce the risk of moisture damage, test methods for building material and component parameters, simplified proof of the fault tolerance of building structures

Application of basic building physics knowledge
   the planning of low-energy buildings, passive houses, plus-energy buildings
   the preparation of the energy certificate and sustainability certificates
