Students understand the load carrying behavior of tensegrity systems.
Students understand the load carrying behavior of geodesic domes.
Students are capabable of designing and constructing such structural systems.
A short historical overview shows the development of structures based on the tensegrity principle. Also, geodesic domes are described in detail. The load-carrying behavior of such systems is explained in terms of the flow of forces and it is compared to other, less efficient, structural systems.
A practical part includes design and the actual construction of a tensegrity system or geodesic dome in model size.
