Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to independently carry out dynamic calculations of building structures under the influence of earthquakes (e.g. by means of Response Spectra), wind and engines.

Subject of course

Modal analyis of structures. Calculation of natural frequencies and mode shapes by means of numerical methods. Special problems of seismic excitation. Modal earthquake response spectra. Application to single and multiple excitation. Vibration isolation. Problems of design with emphasis on wind and earthquake excitation. Basic concepts of stochastic processes. Engine-induced oscillations.

Teaching methods

Lectures including many numerical example problems.
