Possibilities of fracture mechanic tests and determination of corresponding characteristic material values. Which results can be gained, which tools are available, and which data are necessary to perform fracture mechanics evaluations goal-oriented. After the lecture the student should be able to use the basics of fracture mechanics in case of safety evaluations of structures containing cracks and the results of a defect analysis, special examples: welded structures and pressure equipment.
Behaviour and design of welded structures under different loads (static, dynamic, cyclic), design of welded pressure equipment, introduction in fracture mechanics, basics and definitions of fracture mechanics (linear elastic and elasto plasic), standardized fracture mechanics testing procedures and corresponding results, possibilities to use fracture mechanics in civil engineering by the demonstration of examples (steel, glas, wood, and so on), mechanism of collaps, fatigue, determination of fatigue limits, testing of components, operational stability.
