After successful completion of the course, students are able to
(i) derive, from the three-dimensional elasticity theory, the equation for plates under pure membrane loadings, based on Airy’s stress function;
to (ii) derive stress resultants and corresponding equilibrium and elasticity relations for plates with small and moderately large generators, as well all for cylindrical shells. to (iii) to apply plate and shell theories in the framework of computation examples. In this sense, they are aware of different modeling concepts for engineering structures.
