Properties

  • Semester hours: 3.0
  • Credits: 4.0
  • Type: VU Lecture and Exercise

Aim of course

Demonstration of the capacity and diversity of the Finite Element Method (FEM), establishment of the basis for an independent solution of applied problems using commercial software. Understanding of the theoretical basis as well as of the function of a finite element code. Practice of a commercial finite element code.

Please note: Lectures will be held in german, lecture notes for the exercise are available in english, reports and exam can also be written in english.

Subject of course

Capacity of FEM; equations of motion for finite elements; shell elements; numeric integration; MATLAB-codes for FEM; commercial codes for FEM

Additional information

Due to the increasing interest in this lecture and simultaneous limited human and room resources, this lecture is prior offered to master students, whom may sign in with mid of august. An approval for bachelor students is possible with mid of september (Sept 17,2018, 09:00), if free places are still available. Please note that registering for the course is indispensible.

For the exercises basic computation skills using MATLAB are required. A short introduction for MATLAB is provided. Neithertheless, visiting the lecture Programmieren im Bauingenieurwesen Einführung und Grundlagen (see accompagnied LVA) is recommended.

Assignment to masters programme Civil Engineering (code: 066 505):
Modulus 1 of specialization "Konstruktiver Ingenieurbau 1" and "Konstruktiver Ingenieurbau 2";
Modulus 3 of other specialization programs.
