Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to describe the mechanical properties of biological tissues by experimental means. The students will be able to select suitable techniques whenever designing their own experiments. Students will also distinguish suitable mechanical tests for specific length scales.

Teaching methods


The students will be presented with a theoretical background, as well as state-of-the-art mechanical testing techniques of biological tissues. The lecture will include several examples, and scientific publications will be discussed with the students.

With reference to the COVID-19 University and Higher Education Ordinance of the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research, the Institute for Mechanics of Materials and Structures at the Vienna University of Technology has put COVID-19 remote examination regulations into effect on April 29, 2020.
