After successful completion of the course, students are able to...
- enumerate and describe the fundamental research methods in Computer Science
- point out the basic targets and concepts of these research methods
- find pointers to more advanced information about these methods
- critically identify the research methods relevant to their research and correctly apply these

This is a Fundamental PhD Course of the Faculty of Informatics for doctoral students. This course is related to methodologies.
First-year doctoral students are advised to take this course, as its content may help them to prepare their PhD proposal.
Doctoral students in Computer Science have admission priority to this course.

The course parts will be graded with an assignment for each part. The final grade is calculated as the average grade of the assignments.
For a positive overall grade all four course parts must have been graded positive by the respective lecturer.
