Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to

- actively follow presentations of scientists about their ongoing research activities, and ask relevant questions

- elaborate a concise summary on a scientific presentation

- enumerate current trends in computer science and competently engage in a discussion on them

Examination modalities

Do to the unclear situation about futher talks in the summer term, we modify the grading as follows:

  • We have been able to offer 5 talks so far, so the target is that students participated in 3 or 4 of these. Minimum requirement for grading is attendance to 2 talks (signature on the list of participants). Participation to just one of these 5 talks does not qualify for a certificate.
  • Students who attended 3 or 4 talks submit a summary for their choice of 2 of these talks, with min 2 pages per talk.
  • Students who could only attend 2 talks submit a summary for these 2 talks, with min 3 pages per talk.

[Students will be graded provided that the following requirements are fulfilled:

  • Attendance to at least 3 talks (signature on the list of participants).
  • Submission of assignment.

Preferably, students attend 4 (or more) talks, choose 3 of those for their report and give a summary of at least 2 pages for each.
For students who can only attend 3 talks this summary must comprise at least 3 pages for each talk.]

Additional note: Due to the fact that the presentation slides of Matti Tedre are not available, students who attended his talk may look for a related paper of Matti Tedre and summarize his talk based on the paper.

Talks will be offered both in winter term 2019/20 (three talks) and summer term 2020 (plan is to have another three), and any combination of all those may be chosen. However, a further extension to talks from the winter term 2020 is not possible.

The reports should be written in English and in latex (a template will be provided in TUWEL). The deadline for submission of the assignment is July 31st at 23:55h through TUWEL.
