Aim of course

This course aims at conveying theoretical concepts and practical methods for creative idea generation and evaluation in processes of technical and socio-economic innovation. Participants will acquire skills for designing and implementing individual and group ideation processes. The focus in the course is on innovative concepts, designs, and business models and on the interaction in creative teams.

***Content description***

This lecture will cover the following topics:
- Changing existing concepts
- Ideation: creativity techniques, design thinking
- Managing ideas
- Interactions with artists, designers and working in creative teams
- Creative work environments
- Idea selection: assessment and decision-making

Methods:
Presentation, literature, application of creativity tools; approaches to selecting ideas and decision-making; interaction with external experts and working in diverse teams. Practical application of techniques for creativity, idea generation, idea selection, design thinking; critical reflection and assessment from practical and economic perspectives.

Course design:
The course is strongly interactive and requires participants to actively contribute, develop, and assess ideas for innovation during the course and in practical exercises. Course work will include team exercises and a few individual exercises culminating in a 2-day intense workshop at the end. Selected topics will be covered in lectures, but the main thrust of the course is hands-on.

***Lecturers***

Erich Prem is the CEO of eutema Technology Management. He is a graduate engineer in computer science and holds a PhD in computer science from the Technical University of Vienna. Dr. Prem also graduated in managerial economics and received an MBA in General Management from Donau University. He is an experienced co-ordinator of many international projects in ICT research and technology management and a frequent evaluator of research projects. For the last 10 years, he has worked in research management and policy with a focus on ICT research strategy. Dr. Prem has a scientific background in Artificial Intelligence and epistemology. He was a researcher at the Austrian Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence and a guest researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is also a lecturer at the University of Vienna and has published more than 45 scientific articles.
