Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand the current methods, algorithms, and prompting techniques of Generative AI, including, for example, Large Language Models such as ChatGPT.  This forms the basis for further courses and projects.

Subject of course

Generative AI and Large Language Models in particular has seen rapid and ground-breaking development in recent years and months.  This course is about the theoretic foundations and the most important and most recent algorithmic developments.  The implementation of Generative-AI systems as well as open-source codes and data sets will be discussed.  Tooling and prompting techniques will also be explained.

Teaching methods

As methods, the course is based on:

  • lectures units directly combined with practical tutorial units
    (typically ~1hr lecture units plus 0.5hr practical tutorial unit)
  • exercises accompanying the lecture/practical units
    (typically aligned with the lecture units)
  • tests
    (to underrstand progress in the course)
