2020S, VU, 2.0h, 3.0EC
TUWEL

Properties

  • Semester hours: 2.0
  • Credits: 3.0
  • Type: VU Lecture and Exercise

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

  • abstract and model given systems,
  • implement models using simulators,
  • correctly parametrise and calibrate simulations,
  • acquire and process parametrisation data,
  • perform reproducible simulation experiments, and
  • correctly interpret simulation results.

Subject of course

The lecture will deal with all challenges of modeling and simulation that occur when applying the methods presented in the preceding lecture 194.076 Modeling and Simulation.

This includes:

  • Data acquisition and (pre-) processing as well as necessary statistical methods
  • Parametrisation methods for models focusing on model-calibration
  • Reproducibility of simulation experiments, generation of (pseudo-) random numbers
  • Interpretation and visualisation of simulation output, validation and verification

Teaching methods

  • Frontal lecture with regular discussion with the auditorium
  • Presentation of case studies
  • Hands-on programming
  • Supervised project work in teams

Mode of examination

Immanent

Additional information

The preliminary discussion on the VU will take place on 03.03.2020, 12:00-13:00 ct followed by an introductory lecture 13:00-13:45 in EI 11. Thereafter, the lecture will always take place on Tuesday at the same time.

The modules are partly frontal lecture, some of them also contain practical parts with hands-on programming. They prepare for a final group work in which you will solve a predefined problem using modeling and simulation. You will be asked to present the results of your work in the context of the last VU unit in June.

We expect the following expenditure of time:

21.0h   Lecture-/Exercise- units (14 x 1.5h)
  1.0h   Project release
50.0h   Project work including meetings with your supervisor
  2.5h   Preparation for project presentation
  1.5h   Project presentation
------------------------
75.0h  = 3 ECTS

Apart from units related with the project work, there is no compulsory attendance in the lecture hall. Yet, we ask you to comply with the LVA registration period.

The lecture will be administered in TUWEL.
