After successful completion of the course, students are able to design visualizations that conform to common design guidelines. They know and are able to apply selected evaluation methods. They are also able to conduct simple evaluations of information visualisations. They are able to apply theoretical ideas from relevant areas to the design and evaluation of visualizations. They are able to understand and present scientific texts.
The lecture will give an introduction into human perception and the design of usable visualisations. This lecture is based on the lecture Cognitive Foundations of Visualization and is focused on the evaluation of visualizations. Practical aspects of evaluation processes will be discussed and exercises will be conducted. Students will search for literature and present this literature in written and oral form.
