After successful completion of the course, students are able to design visualizations that conform to common design guidelines. They know and are able to apply selected evaluations methods.  They are also able to conduct simple evaluations of information visualisations. They are able to apply theoretical ideas from relevant areas to the design and evaluation of visualizations. They are able to understand and present scientific texts.

Subject of course

The lecture will give an introduction into human perception and the design of usable visualisations. This lecture is based on the lecture Psychological Foundations of Visualization and is focused on the evaluation of visualisations. Practical aspects of evaluation processes will be discussed and exercises will be conducted. Students will search for literature and present this literature in written and oral form.

Teaching methods

Reading of scientific literature, presentation of scientific papers, critical discussion, exercises in evaluations, writing of brief summaries of scientific papers, writing of reports about evaluations

The lecture will be held online. There will be a Zoom meeting with a brief introduction concerning the lecture where questions can be asked (27.11., 15:00). Otherwise, there will be no online meetings. I want to encourage students to post their questions in the forum in tuwel. I will try to answer questions as quickly as possible.
