Properties

  • Semester hours: 4.5
  • Credits: 6.0
  • Type: VU Lecture and Exercise
  • Format: Presence

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to discuss concepts and principles of quantum computing in a formally correct way. Moreover, they are able to describe and analyse classical algorithms for quantum computers and to adapt such algorithms for other problem classes.

Subject of course

From the contents:

  • Introduction and overview
  • Mathematical background
  • Principles of quantum mechanics
  • Quantum gates and quantum circuits
  • Simple quantum algrotihms (Deutsch, Deutsch & Josza, Bernstein & Vazirani, search in an unstructured database, determining the period of a function)
  • Programming paradigms and languages for quantum computing

Teaching methods

The course is comprised of a lecture part and an exercise part. For the latter, students need to solve exercises from a given number of exercise sheets and present their solutions. Moreover, some problems have to be solved by implementing programs for quantum computers.

Mode of examination

Immanent
