After successful completion of the course, students are able to to describe the process of scientific conferences and to write a review of a paper accepted at a scientific conference. This should enable them to know the structure of a well-written paper and to apply this knowledge when writing a survey paper independently. They are also able to present the topics they have worked on in a final presentation.
During the Seminar current issues of IT security are discussed. On the one hand this should familiarize the participants with current research topics. on the other hand this should offer insights in the process of scientific conferences. The Seminar is split in single assignments, as well as group work of 2 people. In a first step, participants will write a review of an accepted paper from a recent security conference. This allows the students to look at the structure of a well-written paper in more detail. The next step involves processing of a current topic in IT security in a working group of 2 persons. The task is to create a survey paper which provides an overview of the state of the art. Each student will then have to review two of these papers. After incorporation of the comments in the original paper, the topics will be presented as part of a short final presentation.Attendance is compulsory for presentation dates.
