Aim of course

Construction of novel appliances for movement in virtual reality applications such as jumping, flying, hovering, etc. Construction comprises the process of design and implementation of the hardware as well as the provision of control APIs and the proper documentation of the project. The actual programming of virtual reality applications (e.g. in Unity) is not in the scope of this course. Students interested in virtual reality programming may refer to the courses of the virtual reality module in the media informatics master program.

Planning & Administration

  • Design and planning of the translation of creative ideas into VR hardware
  • Introduction to the usage of the virtual reality workshop of the workgroup 193-06
  • Explanation of the acquisition progress at TU Wien in the context of VR projects

Implementation and documentation

  • Actual implementation process for VR prototypes made of wood, metal and synthetics
  • Introduction into the legislation on on-the-job safety and machine safety
  • Documentation of the planning and implementation process
  • Connection of hardware and software over standardized APIs
