Aim of course

New model lecture on media perception and media reception emphasizing the cybernetic neural processes involved. We aim at establishing a link between media theory and media analysis by employing artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Topic 2019 is artificial consciousness, for example, in deep neural networks. Some aspects will be: analogical reasoning, creativity, lying, killer robots & ethics in AI, etc.

Subject of course

  • Foundations: Information theory, media theory, mathematical tools, logistics
  • Advanced features: symmetry, self-similarity, etc.
  • Advanced machine learning: neural nets, boundaries of learning, etc.
  • Advanced topics: dynamic systems, measure theory, etc.

Pedagogic concept

  • Frame of knowledge transfer with lecture block at the beginning an exam at the end of the lecture
  • Exploration of lecture contents in a lab project in groups of 2-3 students
  • Application of state of the art visualization and seminar methods for enabling student participation during the lecture
  • Application of an open forum for knowledge exchange over groups during the lab course
