By the end of this course students will be able to: - identify new application areas for mobile, wireless and sensor based technologies. - understand how to interpret and adapt HCI methodologies for the design and evaluation of these applications - critically reflect on the issues entailed in these application areas from an HCI/people perspective - understand and critically reflect on the technical design and deployment of these technologies.
- Limited to 20 students
- Kick-off: MON 09 Oct 2017 14:15 -15:00 Seminarraum Argentinierstraße
This course combines a lecture and exercises. It provides the theoretical foundations for the PR Building Interaction Interfaces. Students who want to attend both in VU Beyond the Desktop and PR Buidling Interaction Interfaces will be 'served first'. That is, the course contingent is reserved for students who want to attend the whole module. Vacant capacaties can be used for students who want to attend only one course of the module.
As mobile, wireless and sensor based technologies mature, whole new forms of interaction between people and computers become possible, especially when compared to traditional notions of HCI based on screen-based interactions. Further, these technologies open up the design space for HCI beyond traditional work-based and productivity concerns, e.g., to health, well being and reflections on daily life. This course will explore these issues via understanding the current state of the art in ambient and ubiquitous technologies.
